Route 28 closed in Mount Tremper

*Update, 11pm: We hear from Jeremy Blaber, of all people, that as of 8pm, 28 was opened to one lane of traffic in alternating directions.

We noted this fact in the big flood post we've been updating all day, but we thought it might be getting buried under all the other updates.

To stay current on the state of 28, check that post linked above often, or try the Town of Shandaken's emergency page. (They're also listing some other roads in Shandaken that are closed.)

Here's an account of the scene on 28 we got from reader Laurie McIntosh around 5:30pm:

...severe flooding has closed Route 28 near the RR tracks in Mt. Tremper, just west of the 212/28 intersection.  I left the scene ~30 minutes ago, where a significant line of traffic was waiting for the flooding to subside.  Like me, plenty other motorists abandoned/altered their travel plans.  From that 212/28 intersection, I couldn't head into Phoenicia, as 212 was closed right off of 28 there. Ulster Co. sheriff vehicles and NS Troopers were present, and could probably provide more info, should you seek it.

I was wishing I had my camera as the rain had stopped and the sky was OUTRAGEOUS with a gold sun bursting through the skies. Wow. Also the flooding (from Esopus overflowing) on the south side of 28 was rather significant.  There must've been some pretty heavy bands of rain in the upper Esopus watershed.
