License to bury

As if leaving bags of blood-soaked bandages around the cemetery for animals to gnaw on wasn't bad enough. The Mayer Berger saga continues:

Berger drove to the cemetery in a vehicle bearing custom license plates "NY OCME."

Berger said it stood for "New York Office of the Chief Medical Examiner" and that he had permission from Dr. Charles Hirsch, the head of the New York City Medical Examiner's Office, to have the custom plates.

The vehicle was also equipped with a red police light on the dashboard, which Berger said he used when responding to emergency calls.

None of this sorta-official-looking gear is legit, police say. Though he did have the proper permit for burying the fetus he had stashed away in his car. Thank goodness for that.
