A 62-year-old who decided to drive on washed-out Cauterskill Rd. in the town of Catskill was rescued by the Greene County Sheriff's Office this morning, according to the Daily Freeman:
Deputies said Natale Scaramuzzino of Leeds was hanging onto his vehicle and had only his head above water when a Sheriff’s Office boat reached him shortly after 9:30 a.m.
A report issued by the Sheriff’s Office said Scaramuzzino ignored both a road-closure barrier and emergency personnel at Cauterskill Road and county Route 23B and drove into the flooded area. The force of the water flipped his vehicle and swept it 150 yards until it became stuck against some trees, deputies said.
Scaramuzzino was reached by boat and taken to safety, and will be charged with a host of violations, including reckless endangerment.
