Last time the Esopus jumped its banks, on October 1, local photographer and videographer Franz Edlinger created an epic video of the flooding set to Beethoven's Fifth.
For the floods this week, Edlinger's picked something a little more Catskillian -- the honky-tonk stylings of Whitey Morgan and the 78s. Here's a link to his video, starring the Yoo-Hoo-esque Esopus and featuring cameos by several local first responders.
Two floods in two months has been rough on Phoenicia. Here's YNN with a story (and video) on how the soggy, soggy village is coping. An excerpt:
Art Snyder, the County Director of Emergency Management, said it's unlikely the area will receive any FEMA Funding. They didn't in October. The damage was not as significant statewide.
"It's been all on the backs of the people that live here," said Town Supervisor Robert Stanley.
And work here.
"We lost tables, they went floating down the street. We have no idea where they ended up," explained Susan Taylor, the owner of Sweet Sue's.
She estimated the flood caused thousands of dollars worth of damage at the restaurant.
"Probably six inches of water in the walk in cooler, another six inches on part of the kitchen floor," Taylor explained.
