State police and DEC crack down on illegal hunting in Sullivan County

Troop F, Zone 1
SP Liberty, SP Roscoe, SP Wurtsboro, SP Narrowsburg

Continuing the long standing Sullivan County tradition, NYS Environmental Conservation Police Officers partnered up with NYS Troopers for the opening weekend of the 2016 Big Game hunting season. The four Green-Grey teams responded to 45 complaint investigations that ranged from illegally shot deer from the roadway, to on-going baited camp complaints, some of which dated back to the 2012 Big Game Season. A total of 78 summonses, 18 of which were misdemeanor offenses, were issued for violations of the Environmental Conservation Law, as well as 1 Penal Law Arrest for Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th. During the four day detail, held on November 19-22, the officers successfully investigated and initiated criminal actions involving the taking of 12 illegal deer, and 3 illegal bear. Hunting with the aid of pre-established bait continues to be the most common violation, as 25 hunters were issued summonses for hunting deer with the aid of pre-established bait, and 5 were issued summonses for hunting bear with the aid of pre-established bait.

The Green-Grey Patrols were once again instrumental in successful opening weekend saturation patrols. These patrols give our Sullivan County ENCON Officers the ability to safely and effectively patrol the entire county. They also help to ensure the safety of hunters, landowners, neighbors and motorists.
