Pot heist leads to arrest of five SUNY Delhi students

On Wednesday afternoon November 30th, 2016 members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested five New York State University of Delhi students three of which were involved in a “Drug deal gone bad” in the Village of Delhi.

Investigators and Deputies arrested and charged Naciar J. Odindo, 20, of Mt. Vernon, NY and Khalil R. Baldwin, 19, of Queens, NY with one count of Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, one count of Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree and one count of Criminal Possession of Marihuana in the 4th degree.

The investigation revealed that both subjects entered a residence in the Village of Delhi to purchase a large quantity of marihuana from Dylan P. Freid, 21, of Syracuse, NY but subsequently decided to steal the marihuana instead. Baldwin and Odindo then fled from the residence on foot where Freid flagged down a Deputy Sheriff and notified him of the theft of the marihuana. Deputies and responding officers then pursued the two male subjects leading them on a foot pursuit within the Village of Delhi. Ultimately, both subjects were apprehended with the assistance of officers from the New York State County Court, Delhi Police Department and the SUNY Delhi Police Department.

Further investigation of the incident and the search of the residence by members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Ozzie and Delhi Police Department resulted in seizure of approximately 11 ounces of marihuana as well as a quantity of synthetic marihuana, $931 dollars in cash, a replica of a Beretta 9mm handgun and a digital scale.

As a result, Freid was charged with one count of Criminal Sale of Marihuana in the 2nd degree (more than 4 ounces) and one count of Criminal Possession of marihuana in the 3 degree (more than 8 ounces). Also arrested and charged were Thomas R. Hite, 21, of Morris, NY, and Sharif S. Johnson, 20, of Saint Albans, NY. Both individuals were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Village of Delhi Court.

Khalil R. Baldwin and Naciar J. Odindo were both arraigned in the Village of Delhi Court before Judge Gumo and each remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu on $25,000.00 cash bail.

Dylan P. Freid was also arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu on $5,000.00 cash bail.
