Do you hear those tin horns echoing over the hills of Andes? They are calling one and all to this year’s annual Community Day, Saturday, August 9th. There will be lot of music throughout the day. Grab your camera and a spot on Main Street after 10:30 to watch the parade. Among the bands will be the legendary marching band of the Lake Delaware Boys Camp. Other music to the ear: The Godforsaken String Band, playing on the Hotel porch starting at 11:30; from noon on Just Throw Money will entertain in the Andes Hotel Summershack; Andes own Rob Laing with the Country Express will play on the Andes School lawn from 1-4 p.m. Drumming and flute will accompany the dance performance happening, noon to 1:30, at Ballantine Park.

And that’s just the music! Brochures listing the plethora of scheduled and all-day events will be all over town. Here’s a sampling: Andes Classic Car Show starting at 10 a.m. at the school; hayrides, 11-2; DEP police dog demo at 1 p.m. behind the bank; new Palmer Hill Trail hike at 3 p.m.; belly dancers throughout the hamlet, 11:30 to 1:30. Michelle MacNaught Fund Art Auction, viewing noon-4:30, auction 4:30-6 at the Koenig Barn;. And of course food galore, including 2 farmers’ markets, and lawn sales all over town, vendors on the school lawn.

So prepare to whistle a tune and tap your feet on Andes sidewalks all day long on Saturday, August 9th.~
