Tonight’s Show: Catskills Tree Review with Gary Mead

On tonight’s show we’ll be reviewing the many trees we have talked about with Gary Mead on From the Forest over the past year or so. Every tree is different, and there is always something unique & special we find out about it.  Every 3rd Wednesday From the Forest talks with local sawmill owner and woodworker – Gary Mead. We will review the special qualities – in rapid succession – of trees found throughout our mountains: eastern hemlock, beech, red & white oak, yellow poplar, birch, maple, and more. Gary is the owner of Fruitful Furnishings.  Fruitful Furnishings began in 1979 as a custom furniture shop. Within ten years, a sawmill was added for producing dimension parts and providing custom sawing, planing, and kiln drying services to customers wishing to furnish their homes with wood from their own trees. Gary has also opened to the public – Gary Mead Gallery – located at the mill-site, which showcases one-of-a-kind pieces made from wood. Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online @www.wioxradio.org to learn more.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?

Don’t let all the snow fool you. Temperatures will be rising the next 3 or 4 days causing the maple sap to flow. I tapped last Sunday in preparation of the coming sap. February syrup is something special to me.

May the forest be with you,
