YPTAW Workshops: Registrati​on is Open!

The West Kortright Centre’s YoungPeople’s Theater Arts Workshops in July still have some slots open for 2012.These workshops (excluding Theater Games) culminate in two fully staged performances of an original piece written by the students for the Into to Acting workshop and two teen-producedperformances of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”on August 3 and 4. Full andpartial scholarships are available for all workshops. Young People’sTheater Arts Workshops are sponsored by Clark Companies, Frank Lumia RealEstate Plus, and Geo. Powers Construction.


 


***SHAKESPEARE (AGES 13 – 19) Tues. – Fri.,July 10 – Aug. 3, 1 – 5PM


(July10 – 20 @ Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, East Meredith/July 24 – Aug 3 @The WKC)  $400/$350 WKC Member. Taught by LA actor and director OliviaBriggs; Music written by composer John DeNicola. This is an intensive ensembleacting workshop culminating in a fully staged production of “The Tempest,” on August 3 & 4,following the 6 PM Introduction to Acting performance and community picnic.


 ***THEATER GAMES (AGES 6 – 9) Mon. – Fri.,July 16 – 20, 1 – 4PM @ The WKC, $110/$90 WKC Member. Taught by actors/teachers Annie McAdams and AngelaSheldon. Students will learn basic acting skills using group improvisations andcreative play to encourage theatrical imagination, self-confidence, and how tohave fun with theater. There will be a performance for family members at theworkshop’s conclusion. 


****INTRODUCTION TO ACTING/PLAYWRITING(AGES 9 – 12)


Tues. – Fri., July 17 – July 20, 10AM –1PM @ The WKC, $75/$60 WKC Member


Taughtby NYC performance artist and playwright Lynn Fischer. Through acting andwriting exercises, students will create original characters and story elementswhich will then be shaped into a play for the Introduction to Acting Workshop.


***INTRODUCTION TO ACTING (AGES 9 – 12) Tues.– Fri., July 24 – 27 Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, East Meredith /Tues.– Fri., July 31 – Aug. 3 @ The WKC, 11AM – 3PM, $190/$170 WKC Member. Taught by NYC performance artist Lynn Fischer.Children will be introduced to the art of acting and stagecraft. Theperformance will be based on the script written the week before in the Intro toPlaywriting class. There will be two full dress performances at 6PM in the WKCauditorium on Aug 3rd & 4th, before the Shakespeare performances.Students who also take the Playwriting Workshop receive a $25 Discount.


***TECHNICAL THEATER (AGES 12 – 19) Tues.– Fri., July 24 – Aug. 3, 11AM – 3PM @ The WKC, $190/$170 WKC Member. Taught by technical theater professional Erwin Karl.All phases of technical theater production—scenic, lighting design, props, andsound for the Shakespeare in the Valley productions on August 3 & 4.


***COSTUME DESIGN (AGES 12 – 19) Tues. – Fri.,July 24 – Aug. 3 • 1 – 5 PM @ The WKC in the Costume Tent • $190/$170 WKCMember. Taught by YPTAW alumina Robin Rubeo. All phases of costuming—design, production, and backstage dressing—for the Shakespeare in theValley performances on August 3 & 4.
