The 9th Annual Catskill Community Garden Club Garden Tour
Saturday, July 16, 2011 - 9am-4pm
9am-9:45am: begin the tour north of Roxbury. Make a right at Hubbell Corners, and continue over the little bridge. At the fork, GO LEFT up Montgomery Hollow Road approximately ¾ of a mile to Hope Springs Farm, the home of Randlett Walster and Herb Jordan. This farm has a wide variety of flower beds, pond, and fruit trees to dazzle the senses.
10:00am-10:45a.m.- coming into Roxbury, make a right onto Bridge Street, past the Public. At the fork, GO LEFT past The Roxbury . Continue past The Yellow Baptist Church. At the 4 corners, GO LEFT. At the 2nd intersection, GO RIGHT up Carroll Hinkley Rd. You will see Gerda VanLeuwen’s gardens on the right, and her husband,Peter Yamaoka’s gardens on the left. This is truly “East Meets West”!! These two artist’s styles really exhibit in their gardens!
11am-11:45am- Go back down Carroll Hinkley Road and GO RIGHT. Make a right onto Rte. 30. At the intersection of Scudder Hill Rd and River Rd. , GO RIGHT, AND CONTINUE TO THE STOP SIGN IN HALCOTTSVILLE, then go right & up Bragg Hollow Road. Go 2.5 miles to The Liddle Farm, home of Dick & Jenny Liddle . You will see Black Angus beef cattle as you approach the farmstead. This is a working farm, selling both grass fed beef and free ranch chicken. Therefore, the gardens are nestled close to the house and lawn. This is an example of an English cottage garden, complete with David Austin roses.
12-12:45pm- go down through the hamlet of Halcottsville to Margaretville. Just past the light, take a right just before Foothills Store. Continue going up the village. At the fork, keep left and go up Margaretville Mtn. Road. Go to the top of the mountain past the Inn and make a right onto Fox Ridge Rd, which ends at the cul-de-sac home of Carolyn Konheim and Brian Ketchum. These gardens showcase a hilltop home surrounding a beautiful swimming pool.
1pm-1:45pm- go back down to Margaretville and take a right onto Swart Street. You will see the home of Leonard Telesco and Louis LaRocca at 165 Swart. This is an eclectic garden full of surprises! Quite charming and “cottagey”! Do not miss the wonderful back garden!
2pm-2:45- Go 7 doors down Swart Street on the same side and you’ll come to the garden of J.R. Lawrence at 63 Swart St. This is not a garden to be missed. Showcases a village garden tucked behind the house.
3pm-3:45pm- Go to the end of Swart Street and make a left onto Academy Street. At Main Street go right. Follow old Rte. 28. At the end of the road ,go right onto Rte.28 towards Andes. At Deer Dell Road, take a left up to Humming Bird Hill, home of Chris Criswell and Donald Hill. Their gardens showcase both light and shade with numerous additions since our last visit!
THERE WILL BE SIGNAGE AT EACH STOP. THERE IS A SUGGESTED DONATION OF $10 TO BENEFIT THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND.
