MURAL, the Mount Utsayantha Regional Arts League, is pleased to host a special, one-week workshop led by artist Lisbeth Firmin: “Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain,” based on Dr. Betty Edwards' best-selling book. This workshop will take place from Monday, August 28 through Friday, September 1, meeting each day from 9 am to 4:30 pm, at the MURAL on Main Gallery, located at 631 Main Street in Hobart, NY 13788.
For many of us, drawing seems to be a mysterious process, reserved for the few who are “talented,” but the work of “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” has debunked this myth and proved that anyone can learn how to draw.
In conjunction with an exhibition of her own artwork at MURAL, Lisbeth Firmin will lead an intensive combination of lectures, demonstrations, and studio exercises that pack a semester-long art course into five days. The workshop is designed to develop the perceptual skills necessary for drawing with confidence and has proven valuable both for people who feel they have little talent for drawing and for those wishing to expand their abilities.
“Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain” will teach students to explore the relationship of drawing to the specialized functions of the right- and left-brain hemispheres, based on the pioneering work of Dr. Betty Edwards. In a carefully sequenced process, students will learn the basic strategies of “seeing” that enable you to draw with a high degree of skill and produce finished drawings of high quality. All exercises are preceded by demonstrations and followed by assessments of individual progress.
The registration cost for this week-long workshop is $200 and includes workbook, however, some additional materials are required. Please visit our website- www.muralartgallery.org; send us an email- muralonmain@gmail.com; or call the gallery- (607)538-3002; for additional details and registration.
