Letter to the Editor: Leave the Tappan Zee be

Dear Editor:

The New York Observer editorializes that the rebuilt Tappan Zee Bridge should be named for Mario Cuomo. I must disagree. Though I respect the ex-governor, I have even more love for the few Dutch names that still exist in our area. ("Tappan Zee" is actually a Dutch version of a Lenape word, "Tuphanne," which probably meant "cold water.") What's next? Naming Spuyten Duyvil after Abe Beame?
