Two rescued by boat in New Paltz

The Times Herald-Record and the Daily Freeman are reporting that two people who drove into the Wallkill River's floodwaters in New Paltz yesterday morning had to be rescued by boat.

The Wallkill routinely floods the stretch of Libertyville Road and Springtown Road that was covered with water yesterday -- in fact, it has happened twice in the past week.

The New Paltz police lieutenant who talked to the Freeman, Steve Osarczuk, said that the drivers who were briefly washed away weren't from around here:

The two people in the car were not local, he said.
