Rebuilding the Catskills: Thoughts on stream management in Margaretville

As we clean up from the destruction caused by flooding across the Catskills, it's on all our minds: How do we keep this from happening again?

The answer isn't a simple one. Here at the Watershed Post, we will be exploring the many tasks we have ahead of us in a new series of posts called "Rebuilding the Catskills."

In this first post, we have an interview with Burr Hubbell of Hubbell Companies, an excavation and equipment rental firm in the town of Middletown, which contains the flood-ravaged villages of Fleischmanns, Arkville and Margaretville.

In this video, shot by videographer and Watershed Post correspondent Jessica Vecchione, Burr talks about how Hubbell Companies handles stream management, and discusses his strategy for preventing flooding in the future.

Dredging and stream management is one of the most fraught issues facing Catskills residents as we rebuild. We want to know what you think about it. Get in touch with us with your point of view at editor@watershedpost.com.
