Wednesday Night’s Show: Fire History with Author & Professor – Dr. Stephen Pyne

CFA-On-The-Air: From the Forest
Wednesdays 6PM – 7PM
WIOX ROXBURY 91.3FM or www.wioxradio.org

From the Forest will be interviewing a fire history expert, author, and professor at Arizona State University – Dr. Stephen Pyne. Pyne has spent 15 seasons as a wildland firefighter at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park between 1967 and 1981. He later spent the summers of 1983-85 writing fire plans for Rocky Mountain and Yellowstone national parks. Pyne credits his entire corpus of work to those years on the Rim.

Since the publication of his second book, Fire in America, in 1982, he has been known as one of the world's foremost experts on the history & management of fire. He has written big-screen fire histories for Australia, Canada, Europe (including Russia), and Earth overall, as well as essays on other lands. Since 2011 he has been writing a fire history of America since 1960 as both a narrative and a series of regional surveys.

His most recent book about fire includes Between Two Fires: A Fire History of Contemporary America. Dr. Pyne recently gave a TED Talk about Fire on Earth as well.

Tune in at 91.3 FM or stream online at www.wioxradio.org to hear from Dr. Stephen Pyne.

WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE FOREST?
Took a walk in the woods the other day. It seemed like I saw more coyote tracks than deer tracks. The days are getting longer, which means maple sugaring season will be here before we know it. We’ll see how the rest of January & February shape up. Last year I didn’t tap until the end of the 2nd week in March.

May the forest be with you,
Ryan Trapani
