The Historical Society of Middletown will host events the next two Sunday afternoons, July 12 and 19.
The first is a screening of the film "Yoo Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg," about the remarkable radio and TV star Gertrude Berg, who commanded the airwaves in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. She got her start reading palms and organizing group plays at the hotel her parents ran in Fleischmanns in the 19-teens, and when she died in 1966, "Molly Goldberg" was buried in Bnai Israel Cemetery, Clovesville. The film starts at 1 p.m. Admission is $5.
On July 19, c'mon back for a square dance and ice cream social to celebrate HSM's 10th birthday. The Tremperskill Boys (and Girls) will play traditional music and provide guidance for some old fashioned do-si-doing and partner swinging. No experience necessary, and you don't even have to bring a partner! There'll be ice cream and cake and you're welcome to just listen and watch, even if you don't want to dance. Bring a picnic and lunch by the pond. Doors open at Noon, dancing starts at 1. Admission is $10.
The HSM hall is at 778 Cemetery Road, Margaretville (the former Izaak Walton League Clubhouse/New Kingston Valley Grange Hall).
