Police release name of slain New Paltz toddler

New Paltz police have released the name of a two-year-old girl whose death on Wednesday was ruled a homicide by blunt force trauma.

The Freeman reports that the victim was Asia Perez-Medina, and that she was staying with her aunt and uncle in New Paltz:

[New Paltz police chief Joseph] Synder identified the dead girl as Asia Perez-Medina, and his department issued a press release Thursday evening that said she was a citizen of the Dominican Republic who was staying with relatives locally at the time of her death.

Snyder said the girl’s aunt and uncle, whose last name is Perez, live in the house at 332 state Route 32 North in New Paltz where Asia was found dead but that he did not know who owns the house.

The Associated Press also ran a story about Perez-Medina's death today.
