Three arrested for Gilboa gun burglaries

According to a press release from the New York State Police in Schoharie County, three people have been arrested for stealing guns in Gilboa and hiding them in the presence of two small children.

Michael J. Chamberlin, a 21-year-old from Central Bridge, and Sara L. Eldred, a 33-year-old from Middleburgh, were charged with stealing two Remington shotguns, two Ruger semi-automatic rifles, and a Buck knife from two Gilboa residences in early July.

A third person, 22-year-old Corey W. Bartholomew of Middleburgh, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child for stashing the weapons in the presence of the children. Chamberlin managed to avoid being photographed by the police, but Eldred and Bartholomew are pictured at left.

Three arrested by State Police in connection with daytime Schoharie County burglaries

Following a three week investigation, the State Police in Cobleskill recovered four firearms stolen from two residences in the Town of Gilboa, Schoharie County, in early July. Numerous interviews by troopers led to the identity of three suspects and the location of the two Remington shotguns, two Ruger semi-automatic rifles, and a Buck knife which was also stolen during the burglaries.

The following two individuals were arrested for Burglary in the 1st Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Making a False Statement:

MICHAEL J. CHAMBERLIN, 21, Church Street, Central Bridge, New York, (no photo) and

SARA L. ELDRED, 33, Straub Lane, Middleburgh, NY.

Additionally, the following individual was arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child:

COREY W. BARTHOLOMEW, 22, Route 30, Middleburgh, New York.

CHAMBERLIN and ELDRED committed the burglaries and BARTHOLOMEW possessed the weapons in the presence of two young children which prompted troopers to charge them with Endangering the Welfare of a Child. This information was developed by Schoharie County Child Protective Services and turned over to the State Police.

CHAMBERLIN and ELDRED provided false information to troopers and were charged with making false statements. CHAMBERLIN and ELDRED were arraigned in Gilboa Town Court and remanded to the Schoharie County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash and $50,000 bond. BARTHOLOMEW was released on his own recognizance.

State police are working with the Schoharie County District Attorneys Office and Child Protective Services. Additional arrests are anticipated.
